Stereotypes

Usually in movies, the tall and huge characters are depicted as stupid, and the shorter individuals are depicted as smart and clever. This is also portrayed in the novel as well. The Lilliputians were miniature individuals compared to Gulliver, and Gulliver described them as being educated. Also, he describes the Lillputians's is complex as well. Also, Gulliver describes the Brobdingnagians, or giants compared to him, as uneducated. Also, their language was described as simple as well.

  1. I find it interesting you say this Hilson because Gulliver thinks he is educated even though he is portrayed as not as smart as the Lilliputians. And although the Brobdingnagians are quite huge, Gulliver does go into a quite detail account talking about their sciences, philosophy, and moralities. But Gulliver doesn't really talk as much about the moralities and sciences that made the Lilliputians more educated. Therefore, I think the reason Swift writes this is not to stereotype, but to look past all appearances and discover the intelligence of each race to be more equal than we think.
